About Barbara Scully

I am a passionate and resourceful Family and Consumer Science Educator (FCS). I hail from the great state of Washington where I, and my husband, raise our four children. I am their chauffeur, cheerleader, and mess-hall manager. I thrive on relationships both new and old. Authenticity is the method to my madness when it comes to relationships, teaching, and parenting. My background consists of retail, business, IT, and early childhood education; it is quite the mashup!

There is a huge demand for family and consumer sciences educators in secondary schools, Extension, and higher education. I am growth minded and passionate for relative professional development which are essential for the vitality of FCS programs nationwide.  I have a love of teaching and a passion for helping others.

I am truly passionate about helping, learning from, and supporting other educators though networking.  I know all our instruction will benefit for the better, which is why I started this podcast.

What is ConnectFCSed?

This podcast is about recruiting, supporting, and maintaining family and consumer science (FCS) educators in the modern day home economics class. We have candid conversations, stories and share valuable resources that help us succeed in our classroom this includes classroom management, promoting FCS in schools and communities, class culture, and life skills.

Us teachers need other teachers in order to succeed. It's been proven that educators who do not experience effective professional development do not improve their skills and student learning suffers. Teaching can be an isolating job with few opportunities to enjoy the bonding of collaboration. My goal is to better support all educators professionally, and improve all of our skills. I am truly passionate about helping others and by networking with other knowledgeable FCS educators I know all of our instruction will benefit for the better, which is why I started this podcast.
